Abstract
Objective:To observe the efficacy and safety of piperacillin tazobactam in treatment of moderate severe community acquired pneumonia and to evaluate the rationality of antibiotic therapy. Methods: 42 patients were randomized into two groups. Patients were treated first with piperacillin tazobactam 4. 5g by infusion intravenously every 8 h for 5-10 d in therapeutic group (n - 22). and piperacillin/tazobactam 4. 5g by infusion intravenously every 8 h for 5-10 d if sputum culture was opsitive in control group (n = 20). Results: In therapeutic group and control group, the cure rate, the effective rate, the bacterial eradication rate and the adverse effect rate were 63.64%, 86.36% . 79.5%, 4. 76% and 60% ,85% . 74.4%. 5.41 respectively. There was no significant difference between the two groups. In therapeutic group, the time of pneumonia absorption was 8. 29 ± 1.32 d,the period of ICU stay was 9.10 ± 1. 34 d,Which was was shorter than that of control group(P0.05). Hospitahzation time (21.71 ± 5.21 d) and mechanical ventilation days were shorter than that of control group (P0.01). Conclusion: Piperacillin tazobactam can he used as empirical antibiotics for moderate-severe community acquired pneumonia. Piperacillin/ tazohactam treatment is effective and safe.
