Abstract
Researches show that language transfer is an influential factor in Second Language Acquisition. There are two types of transfers: positive transfer and negative transfer, the former promotes foreign language learning and the latter hinders it.This paper makes a comparative study of English language and Chinese language, and discusses the positive transfer and negative transfer in phonological, syntactic, lexical and cultural aspects for Chinese students in the process of learning English. Some suggestions on foreign language teaching have also been given and learners are encouraged to promote positive transfer and avoid negative transfer in SLA in order to ensure efficient learning.
