Abstract

It should never be neglected that Goethe contributed a great deal to the development of aesthetics. According to some German scholars, Kant grounded the modern aesthetics while Goethe enriched it; hence to a large extent, aesthetics is the child of philosophy and literature. Goethe's “poetic world view broke through Kant's theoretical restraint, extending meanings to all kinds of lives, and thereafter illuminating modern German aesthetics. Meanwhile, his “Faust's spirit also fired the Chinese literature aesthetics with enthusiasm.
