The Eradication of Three Barriers of Thinking about theCultural Exchange between China and the West

Under the current trend of globalization, there are three major ideas obstructing the advocation and promotion of Sino-West cultural communication.One idea claims that the cultural communication on equal terms is impossible and the general trend of world cultures will end up in one culture replacing the other.Another idea argues that the merging of cultures will eventually lead to unified world culture with no distinction.The last one tends to magnify the untranslatability between different languages and cultural systems.Analysis is carried out here as to the possilility of different cultures communicating equally,the possibility of achieving the unified world culture with no distinction,and the possibility of accurate translating between cultures.Whereupon a wish is proposed:both China and the West should seek deeper awareness and understanding of each other,and promote the further communication and merging of the two cultures on the common ground of equality.
