The Cooperative Principle and Humor in Conversation

In the process of human communication,speakers and hearers should adopt the cooperative principle and obey its four sub-maxims so that the conversation can move on smoothly and effectively.However,people don't always keep these rules;instead they break the maxims to produce particularized conversational implications on purpose.This paper,from the perspective of pragmatics,discusses the humorous effects caused by disobeying the cooperative principle.
