The Effect of Nonverbal Factor on Interpretation

Abstract

In order to interpret correctly and quickly, interpreters should study not only verbal factors but also nonverbal factors. In this article, the effect of the nonverbal factors, such as kinesics and human appearance, acting on interpretation, is presented and analyzed. The cultural difference of non-verbal factors, such as kinesics, space language and chronemics is presented and comparatively analyzed. Some suggestions are also made to help interpreters take advantage of the nonverbal factors.
