Abstract

The effect of different dispersing conditions on dispersion of TiC powders in aqueous solution was analyzed. Particle size and distribution of TiC was determined by Field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM) and laser diffraction particle size analyzer. The stability of TiC suspension was characterized in terms of Zeta potential and sedimentation. The experiment results showed that the TiC suspension was satisfactorily dispersed with the dispersant(1wt% PVP and 1 wt% MA) at pH 9.5. The results showed that both electrostatic stabilization and steric stabilization were slso deduced to be the main mechanisms for well dispersion of the TiC powders in aqueous media.
