Abstract
On the basis of discussion on the scientific research aspects of fire protection engineering, the goal of education for fire protection engineering, its relationship with other engineering disciplines, its curriculum system and the challenges it faces in the new century are presented. Its research area encompasses mainly fire physics, fire chemistry, structural fire behavior, interaction between fire and people, fire hazard analysis, fire protection design and management. The object of education for fire protection engineering is to nurture engineers capable of solving fire safety problems. Being able to analyze fire hazard, to design and calculate fire protection system and to comprehensively analyze the fire risk are three basic skills for a fire protection engineer. Due to the complexity and multidisciplinary nature, it is necessary to establish the knowledge system of fire protection engineering based on scientific principles and the research knowledge so as to promote the development of this discipline.
