Abstract

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effects of hepatic arterial embolization for cavernous hemangiomas of 1iver(CHL). Methods 28 patients with cavernous hemangiomas of 1iver were treated with pingyangmycin-lipiodol emulsion combined with gelatin spongy particles by transcatheter hepatic arteria1 embolization. All cases were followed up for12~24 months after therapy. Results During the period of follow-up,the cavernous hemangiomas were shrunk to varying degrees and symptoms subsided in al1 cases after 1 to 3 procedures of embolization. The size of tumors partially responsed (by more than 50% )in 19 (67.9%,19/28) and minimal responsed (by more than 25% but less than 50%) in 7 (25%,7/28) of the total. No significant complications occurred in this series. Conclusion Combined embolization of pingyangmycin-lipiodol emulsion with gelatin spongy particles is an optimal, safe and effective treatment for CHL.
