Analysis on Heterotic Groups of Inbreds from 5 Synthetic Maize Populations

Abstract

The preliminary objective of this study was to evaluated heterotic groups and heterotic patterns of a set of 15 newly developed inbred lines.The materials which were classified by using SSR markers were 4 normal corn inbred lines(Mo17,Huangzaosi,Dan340 and 478),which represented four main heterotic groups,namely,Lancaster,Sipingtou,Luda Red Cob and Reid in China,and 8 testers which were commonly used in southwest regions,and 5 newly inbreds abtained from 5 synthetic corn populations named GP1,GP2,GP3,GP4 and GP5.The materials of estimating heterotic patterns were 120(15×8) combinations by crossing 15 new maize inbred lines with the 8 testers by NCⅡ mating design.Clustering analysis was done on the basis of the genetic distance coefficient.Heterotic patterns was analyzed based on the data from the experiment and clustering analysis.The results showed that the 27 inbred lines could be classified into 5 heterotic groups,which populationⅡ could be divided into 4 subgroups.Among the various populations,Lancaster and Luda Red Cob could becomesuperior combinations,especially Lancaster×Luda Red Cob I and Lancaster×Luda Red Cob Ⅳ.So,Lancaster×Luda Red Cob I and Lancaster×Luda Red Cob Ⅳ become heterotic patterns.
