EFFECTS OF IRBESARTAN ON SERUM LEVEL OF LEPTIN IN PATIENTS WITH ACUTE CEREBRAL INFARCTION

[Objective] To observe the effects of irbesartan on serum level of leptin in patients with acute cerebral infarction(ACI).[Methods]89 subjects were divided into control group(n = 27),ACI control group(n = 32)and ACI treatment group(n = 30).Patients in both ACI groups were given conventional medicine treatment for 2 weeks,and patients in the ACI treatment group oral irbesartan(150mg/day)for 2 weeks.Blood pressure(Bp),blood lipid,the level of high sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP)and leptin were measured and the scores of neurological deficit(NDS)were evaluated before and after treatment in all subjects.[Results]Compared to those in the control group,the Bp,TG,Th,LDL and hs-CRP as well as leptin were obviously increased in both ACI groups(P﹤0.01).The hs-CRP and leptin were obviously decreased in both ACI groups after treatment for 2 weeks(P﹤0.05),the changes were significant in the ACI treatment group compare to those in the ACI control group(P﹤0.05).NDS were improved after treatment in both ACI groups.However,lowering of NDS after treatment in the ACI treatment group were more apparent compare to those in the ACI control group(P﹤0.05).[Conclusion]Irbesartan can decrease serum level of leptin,and improve the recovery of neurological function in patients with ACI.
