Abstract
Objective To evaluate the value of automatic liquid-based thin-layer cytology (LCT) in cervical cancer screening. Methods Samples were collected from uterine cervix from 17 500 patients and tested by LCT system for cervical cancer screening. The pathological diagnosis was performed according to the criteria of Bethesda system (TBS). The results were retrospectively reviewed. Results Among 17 500 samples, the proportions of squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL), low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL), atypical squamous cells (ASCUS) and atypical glandular cells (AGUS) were 0.091% (16 cases), 0.023% (4 cases), 0.594% (104 cases), 0.891% (156 cases), 2.011% (352 cases) and 0.326% (57 cases), respectively. 16 811 cases were found without intraepithelial lesion cells or malignantcells, accounting for 96.063%. Conclusion LCT and TBS system can reflect cervical intraepithelial lesion accurately and wholly. Early detection and treatment of precancerous lesions is the key point for preventing cervical cancer.
