Abstract

The characteristics of the vascular bundles in the panicle and their relations to the grain-filling for the different panicle types of rice were studied. The results indicated that the number of vascular bundle, the area of for 1 vascular bundle, the area for all vascular bundles and the area for all phloem in the branches of different position of panicle of heavy-panicle type were larger than that of middle-panicle type and the latter were larger than that of light-panicle type. The vascular bundle in the branches of different position of panicle in heavy-panicle types and middle-panicle types had a similar effective sink load and sink-filling percentage, which were higher and lower than that in light-panicle types, respectively. The developed vascular bundles in the panicle were a basic structural factor to good grain-filling.The undeveloped vascular bundles in the low position of the panicle might be main factor to low grain-filling.
