Abstract

Objective To investigate the changes in the thyroid function of the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods The levels of free T3(FT3),free T4(FT4),thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH) in T2DM patients(n=30) and controls(n=12) were determined. Results Compared with the controls, the TSH level in T2DM patients was higher notably(P=0.0215),and the FT3 level was lower significantly(P=0.0433).13.3% of the T2DM patients had hyperthyroid, and 26.7% had hypothyroid. The incidence of subclinical hypothyroid in female(14.3%) was higher than that in male(6.3%).Conclusion The incidence of thyroid dysfunction in the T2DM patients is high, and the incidence of subclinical hypothyroid in the female T2DM patients is much higher.
