Abstract
Sodium octadecyl sulfate such surfactants are synthesized from non-toxic-octadecyl alcohol, with chlorosulfonic acid as the sulfating agent. The synthesized surfactant is characterized by melting point,infrared,H-NMR spectrum studies. The physical characteristics of the surfactant, such as the Krafft point, surface tension, conductivity, and scanning electron microscope are also researched. At 30℃,the surface tension and the critical micelle concentration of the surfactant is 48mN/m and 0.2mmol/L respectively. Both the critical micelle concentration and surface tension will be reduced as the temperature increases. When the temperature increases from 30℃ to 50℃,the critical micelle concentration dropps from 0.2mmol/L to 0.1mmol/L.The krafft point is 56℃,the melting point is 209℃.
