Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between intima-media thickness(IMT) and indexes such as interleulin-18,resistin and serum amyloid A(SAA) in uremic patients on maintenance hemodialysis. MethodsUltrasonography was used to measure the intima-media thickness(IMT) of uremic patients on maintenance hemodialysis, and accordingly to IMT,the patients were divided into two sub-groups:IMT1.0 mm and IMT≥1.0 mm groups.Interleulin-18,resistin,serum amyloid A and tumor necrosis factor-α concentration were determined by ELISA.In addition, the relative indexes such as hemoglobin, plasma albumin, urea nitrogen,creatinine,blood-fat,Ca phosphorus and parathormone were also detected. ResultsThere were 63 uremic patients on maintenance hemodialysis in this study, comprising 19 patients with IMT≥1.0 mm and 44 patients with IMT1.0 mm.There were significant differences in interleulin-18,resistin,serum amyloid A,tumor necrosis factor-α,age,hemodialysis time, systolic pressure, pulse pressure and low density lipoprotein cholesterol between the two groups(P0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that IMT was closely associated with Interleulin-18,resistin,serum amyloid A and tumor necrosis factor-α. ConclusionIn the present study, the uremic patients on maintenance hemodialysis with IMT≥1.0 mm accounted for 30.2%.IMT was closely correlated with Interleulin-18,resistin,serum amyloid A and tumor necrosis factor-α,suggesting that inflammation in uremic patients on maintenance hemodialysis may be associates with progression of cardiovascular diseases.
