Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of Ozone combined with collagenase in the treatment of lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. Methods 20 patients with lumber interverterbral disc herniation were treated by injecting ozone and collagenase into herniated nucleus pulposus. Results Through a follow- up of 3 mon and 6 mon, the result showed excellent in 12 cases (account for 60%), good in 7 (35%) and poor in 1 (5%), with satisfactory rate of 95%, which were based on modified MacNab curative effect criteria. No serious complication occurred, such as injury of dural sac, nerve and blood vessel. Conclusion Combination therapy of ozone and collagenase is an effective and safe approach in the treatment of lumbar intervertebral disc herniation.
