Abstract
The cone calorimeter was adopted to access the ignition characteristic of PP and PS-HI,and the influence of common inorganic fillers on ignition characteristic of polymers and related mechanism were explored. It showed that the decomposition temperature and mass flux were the major factors of polymer ignition under cone calorimeter condition. When PP and PS-HI were mixed with the selected fillers, the values of time to ignition were reduced. As filler loading increased, time to ignition generally underwent declining at first and then rising later, however, all were shorter than corresponding neat polymers. The inclusion of filler accelerated the occurrence of ignition, however, prolonged the process of ignition to be completed.
