Abstract

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of dual phase spiral computer tomography(CT) in primary hepatic carcinoma with tumor thrombosis of the portal vein(TTPV).Methods Dual-phase enhanced spiral CT scan was perfomed for a total of 36 patients with tumor thrombosis of the portal vein. The appearance of TTPV in primary hepatic carcinoma was analyzed. Results All the patients had a positive CT findings related to TTPV,which were the dilation of portal vein(PV),filling defect within PV andPV casting, and networking of arteries around PV.Portal trunk with right portal branch and portal trunk with left portal branch had seen in 12 and 8 cases,respectively.9 cases had tumor thrombosis of the portal trunk with both left and ritght portal branch. In addition, right portal branch in 4 cases and left portal branch in 3 cases had seen on CT.Conclusion Dual-phase enhanced spiral CT scan is an effective tool for the diagnosis of TTPV and can also provide comprehensive information in primary hepatic carcinoma with TTPV.
