Abstract

Purpose:The significance of thyroid calcification in the diagnosis of thyroid carcinoma using ultrasound was evaluated. Materials and Methods:Sonogram of 107 patients of thyroid nodules with calcification was retrospectively analyzed, the ultrasonographic finding was compared with pathological results after excision. Results:Among 58(54%) thyroid carcinoma confirmed pathologically,7 showed peripheral circular-calcification,8 lesions had patchy calcification,43 of 58 cases displayed granule-shaped calcification. Conclusion:The thyroid calcification is an important sign of thyroid carcinoma, especially granule-shaped calcification.
