Abstract

【Objective】To evaluate the diagnostic value of OMOM capsule endoscopy in patients with chronic diarrhea.【Methods】From Oct.2005 to Sept.2011,the OMOM capsule endoscopy was used in 53 patients with chronic diarrhea.Diagnoses by OMOM capsule endoscopy were recorded.【Results】For small intestinal lesions in diarrhea group, the diagnostic positive rate was 47.17%(25/53),about 12 cases suffered from non-specific inflammation of the small intestine in the 25 patients with small intestinal lesions in the diarrhea group(22.64%);The other finding included 5 cases of small intestinal ulcer(9.43%),2 cases of small intestinal tumor(3.77%),2 cases of small intestinal polyp(3.77%),2 cases of ascarid(3.77%),1 case of vascular deformity(1.89%),1 case of intestinal lymphoid hyperplasia(1.89%).About 52.83%(28/53) patients in the diarrhea group showed absolutely normal small intestine.【Conclusion】OMOM capsule endoscopy is a safe procedure and valuable tool in etiological diagnosis of chronic diarrhea.
