A study on the relative factors of depression of college students

The study investigated relationship between social support,general self-esteem and depression in college students.Results showed that:(1) there were no significant differences in general self-esteem,social support and depression between male and female,urban and rural students;(2)general self-esteem and social support had significant main effects on depression;(3)general self-esteem and social support had significant interactive effects;and(4)college students with high general self-esteem and high social support had the least depression,and those with less general self-esteem and less social support had the highest depression.Conclusion: college students with less general self-esteem and less social support should be cousidered as important subjects for mental health education.
