Abstract

Objective To study the angiogenesis in breast carcinoma and its correlation to expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and microvessel density (MVD) and prognosis. Methods Immunohistochemistry method was used to detect the expression of VEGF and MVD in the cancerous and corresponding paracancerous tissues in 109 cases of breast carcinoma. Results The positive rate of VEGF expression in breast carcinoma tissue was 93.57%,higher than that of the neighboring noncancerous tissues (42.67%),P0.05.In addition,MVD and VEGF had a closely positive correlation between tumor size and histological grade (P0.01).Conclusion VEGF is an important angiogentic factor in the breast cancinoma.VEGF and MVD are closely correlated with lymph node metastasis or tumor recurrence.
