Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the safety and feasibility of minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy(MPCNL) in treating upper ureteral calculi.Methods:56 patients with upper ureteral calculi were treated by the minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy.Abdominal plain films were obtained after operation and were searched for residual stones.Results: 53 procedures achieved success in all the 56 cases.The success rate was 94.6%.In the 53 successful cases,the mean operative time was 59.8(±20.1) min;the hospital stay was 6 to 9 days;the stone-free rate was 100%.There was no blood transfusion or other serious complication in all the 56 cases.Conclusion:MPCNL is safe and effective to treat upper ureteral calculi and can be considered to be the first choice for upper ureteral calculi close to the renal pelvis with severe hydronephrosis.
