Abstract
In order to clarify the current coverage of planning elements in green space system, this paper begins with a review on the development of green space system planning. It then discusses the functions, spatial characters as well as corresponding land use carrier of the green space system.A framework of green space components is built up by including four types of elements under the category of dominant function and three types of elements under the category of spatial layout. Altogether 12 types of element covering urban and rural area are included. The establishment of the element system for urban green space system planning can contribute to the diversification of functions and multiplication of spatial structure for a city's green space system.
