Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the clinical effects of ropivacaine combined with butorphanol for postopertive analgesia on brachial plexus block.Method: In a randomized,double-blind,controlled study, forty patients undergoing elective upper extremity surgery were allocated randomly to one of two groups to receive either 0.125% ropivacaine injected into the brachial plexus sheath(I group) or butorphanol combined with ropivacaine injected into the brachial plexus sheath(II group).Surgery on the upper extremity under continuous axillary brachial plexus sheath block, patients rated their pain on a 10cm visual analogue scale(VAS).Result: VAS scores of groups I and II were no statistical difference during postoperative four hours;during eight hours to 36 hours, the postoperative VAS scores in group Ⅰwere obviously higher than those in group Ⅱ(P 0.01)however,there were no significant differences in the incidences of adverse reaction between two groups(P 0.05).Conclusion: The effects of ropivacaine combined with butorphanol for postoperative analgesia on brachial plexus block is effective and safe with less side effect
