Abstract

Competition is an important concept in ecology. It is commonly considered that competition plays an important role in structuring and the dynamics of communities. In recent years, theories of competition have been gotten much developed. And at the same time, people are paying more and more attention to interspecific competition of phytoplankton. In this paper, the most recent development on the concepts and theories of competition are summarized, and then some representative experiments on exploitive competition and interference competition are intredaced. At last, the effects of nutrients, initial cell densities, salinity, irradiance and temperature on the growth and interspecific competition of phytoplankton are analyzed. It is hope that the paper can present some help to the studies of the colleagues in this field.
