Abstract
Objective To evaluate the accuracy of Root ZX and ProPex root apex locators in detecting vertical root fractures.Methods Root ZX and ProPex were used to measure the lengths of root canal in teeth with vertical root frac-ture.The actual length of root canal was measured after the teeth were pulled out.The lengths measured by two kinds of root apex locators were compared with actual canal length.Results Root ZX and ProPex could detect the vertical root fracture.The lengths measured by two kinds of root apex locators were shorter than that of primary canal(P0.001).And there was no statistically significant difference between the group of root apex locators and group of actual length(P0.05).Conclusion The root apex locator is very helpful in diagnosing vertical root fracture.
