Abstract
Objective To analyze the aetiology and the clinical effectiveness of 223 cases received evisceration. Methods Medical records of 223 inpatients underwent evisceration at the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University from January 2002 to December 2006 were retrospectively reviewed for the analysis of demographic features, risk factors, pathology findings and therapeutic effects. Results The proportion of patients underwent evisceration in the patients as a whole was 2.19%.Ocular trauma(102 cases,45.74%) was the most common risk factor, followed by ocular infection(81 cases,36.32%),glaucoma consummatum(29 cases, 13.00%) and adherent leukoma(7 cases,3.14%).After histopathologically analyzed the evisceration tissue(207 cases),167 cases(80.68%) showed different degrees inflammation.Analysis of the sclera after evisceration 2-3 months(44 cases),only 4 cases(9.09%) showed chronic inflammation. The surgery rate of evisceration showed a decreasing tendency progressively. There were 26 cases who received primary hydroxyapatite artificial eye pedestal implantation after evisceration,5 cases(19.23%) had the implants exposure. The results of stage Ⅱ implantation in 60 cases showed 4 cases(6.67%) exposure. Conclusion Ocular trauma was the most common reason of evisceration. The chronic inflammation of eyeball wall concentrated in 2 months. The suitable time of hydroxyapatite implant placement wrapped with autologous sclera was 2~3 months.
