Causes and treatment of shallow anterior chamber after glaucoma surgery

Objective:To investigate the causes and treatment of shallow anterior chamber after trabeculectomy for glaucoma.Methods:A total of 298 glaucoma patients underwent trabeculectomy,and the causes of shallow anterior chamber were reviewed in 45 eyes out of total 314.Results:Postoperatively,shallow anterior chamber occurred in 45 of the total 314 eyes(14.3%),and the causes were associated with excessive filtrations(26 eyes,57.8%),conjunctival flap leakages(8 eyes,17.8%),choroidal detachments(9 eyes,4.4%) and malignant glaucoma(2,4.4%).Most shallow anterior chambers were effectively improved after appropriate treatment.Conclusion:Shallow anterior chamber is a usual complication after trabeculectomy,yet,it can be avoided or improved if reasonable measures have been effectively taken.
