Abstract
The formation and accumulation of advanced glycation end products(AGEs) have been demonstrated to be related to the development and progression of diabetic vascular complications including diabetic retinopathy, nepropathy, neuropathy, and cardiovascular diseases. The interaction of AGEs with the receptor for advanced glycation end product(RAGE) induces oxidative stress, vascular inflammation and thrombosis, all of which play central roles in diabetic vascular complications.Inhibition of AGE formation, blockade of AGE crosslink, and interaction of AGEs with RAGE are promising therapeutic strategies for preventing diabetic vascular complications.
