Abstract
Objective To discuss the imaging features and diagnostic value of computerized tomography(CT) in patients with renal tuberculosis(TB).Methods We performed a retrospective study to analyze the imaging material of 124 patients underwent CT with renal TB confirmed by pathology. They were reviewed for certain imaging findings, including renal distortion,moth-eaten calices, amputated infundibulum, autonephrectomy, thick urinary tract walls, renal calcifications, renal parenchymal cavities, renal parenchymal scarring,hypofunction,extra-urinary tubercular manifestations and hydrocalycosis, hydronephrosis or hydroureter due to stricture.According to corresponding pathological characteristics of renal TB as gold standard,we contrasted the imaging diagnostic value of CT including renal calcifications, renal parenchymal cavities and thick urinary tract walls. Results Final diagnosis of renal tuberculosis was 105(84.7%) cases. The major manifest were:renal parenchymal cavities 115(92.7%) cases, renal parenchymal scarring 83(67.7%) cases, renal calcifications 98(79.0%) cases, and thick urinary tract walls 107(85.8%) cases and so on.As far as displaying renal calcifications, renal parenchymal cavities and thick urinary tract walls of renal TB,sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of CT were significance respectively. Conclusion CT could demonstrate the site,extent,range,extra-renal manifestations of renal TB and contralateral renal information. It is certain diagnostic value to advanced stage renal TB.
