Abstract
Through an analysis of Said's family background, research approaches and the Oriental history, the author discusses why Said's Orientalism did not involve the Far East through a discussion of the following three aspects: 1. Said's family background: Born in an Arabian family, and under the influence of the Middle East as the center and Islamism, Said focused on the Near East and the Middle East and regarded the Far East as the margin of the Orient. 2. His research approach was not quite suitable for the study of the Orientalism in East Asia (especially China). 3. The Western colonial powers did not obtain a long and absolute colonial rule in the Far East (mainly China) and as a result, the Far East did not have the prerequisites for the emergence of Orientalism.
