Abstract
Developing a cluster of modern metropolitan areas in a region is significant for the urbanization process and the regional coordinated development in China.By introducing the spatial distribution and development of metropolitan areas in China,this paper illustrates the current development status,existing problems,and characteristics of comprehensive transportation system in the clusters of metropolitan areas.The paper presents the comprehensive transportation system planning methodologies for the clusters of metropolitan areas based on the planning principles,techniques,objectives,and demand forecasting.Finally,from a strategic perspective,the authors point out the requirements for the planning and building transportation system facilities.
