Abstract

Objective To investigate the prevalence and its risk factors of fatty liver among rural population. Methods We tested the blood samples of 41 677 farmers who enrolled in the health insurance system for local farmers. All participants signed informed consent form for the study and had physical examination. The diagnosis of fatty liver was made by an ultrasound procedure. The blood samples of participants were tested for blood lipids, blood glucose and etc. Results The prevalence of fatty liver was 14.70%.There was no sex difference for the prevalence. However, the highest prevalence rates were respectively observed in men aged 40-49 years and in women aged 60-69 years. The obesity, lipid profile, blood glucose, blood pressure and weight were all positively correlated with the occurrence of fatty liver(P0.05).By the type of hyperlipidemia, the prevalence of fatty liver was the highest in the mixed hyperlipidemia group and the lowest in the hyper cholesterol group. Conclusion The prevalence of fatty liver is associated with multiple factors among rural population.Prevention measures should be taken to decrease the prevalence of fatty liver.
