Abstract
Objective To investigate the influence of valsarta capsule on the function of vascular endothelium in elderly patients with hypertension and its therapeutic effect on senile hypertension. Methods 64 elderly hypertension (EH) patients were treated with valsarta for 4 weeks with the dose range from 80 to 160 mg/d and then compared with 60 healthy elderly people before and after treatment by measuring the levels of blood pressure, plasma nitric oxide and endothelin(ET-1).Results The nitric oxide levels in EH group were significantly lower than those of control group(P0.01),while the levels of ET-1 were obviously higher than those of control group(P(0.01).)The change of blood pressure in EH group was negatively related with the levels of nitric oxide, however which was positively related with the levels of ET-1.After 4-week'treatment with valsarta, systolic and diastolic pressures in both groups remarkably decreased,as compared with those before treatment(P0.01),but their heart rates didn't change significantly(P0.05),and the total effective rate was 87.5%.The nitric oxide levels were increased significantly (P0.05),and the higher the degree was,the more notable the change of nitric oxide levels and ET-1 levels became. Conclusion Valsarta is effective in treating hypertension, which may improve poor structure andfunction of vascular endothelium.
