Abstract

Objective To investigate the hypoxia and its impact on the proliferation and apoptosis in oral cancer cells. Methods The hypoxia, growth and apoptosis in SCC15 oral cancer cell were observed by Hypoxyprobe-I MabI,MTT assay, flow cytometry in the control and six groups with different time of hypoxia/reoxygenation.Results Hypoxia was found in the control and hypoxia/reoxygenation groups. The percentage of viable cells was steadily reduced in hypoxia-treated groups.Hypoxic growth induced morphological alterations typical for apoptotic cell death.Hypoxia inhibited cell growth and induced cell apoptosis in SCC15 cells after 12h or 24h hypoxia/reoxygenation(P0.01).Conclusion Hypoxia inhibits the cell proliferation and promotes apoptosis in oral cancer cells. The extent of hypoxia has effects on oral cancer cell growth and apoptosis.
