Investigation on core indicator of behavioral surveillance among female sex workers in Yulin,2009～2011

Objective To get the information of intervened behavior for the sex workers,and evaluate the intervened effect in Yulin City from 2009 to 2011,so as to provide the evidence for further behavioral intervention.Methods Face to face interview and blood collection for HIV and RPR test were conducted among female sex workers(FSW)providing commercial sex services in various vice establishments who were chosen by cluster sampling.Results The rate of using condoms in the last commercial sex activities among the surveyed FSWs was: 81.00%,95.00% and 95.25% in the respective 3 years from 2009 to 2011;while the rate of consistently using condoms in sex with clients during the last month was: 44.75%,62.75% and 77.00% in the respective 3 years.The rate of awareness of HIV/AIDS transmission among the FSWs was 87.25%,86.44% and 82.91%,respectively.The proportion of the FSWs who attended HIV VCT services was 42.50%,50.25% and 22.75%.The proportion of the FSWs who received intervention service within the last year was 68.75%,78.25% and 90.25%,respectively.The HIV detection rates were 1.25%,0.25%,1.25% in the 3 years while the syphilis detection rates were 4.00%,3.25%,8.75% respectively and HCV detection rates were 0.50%,1.00%,and 1.25%.Conclusion The proportion of the FSWs who attended HIV VCT services has reduced.The proportion of the FSWs who received intervention service and the syphilis detection rates tends to increase.Rate of condom use and HIV awareness need to be further enhanced among female sex workers.Poorly educated female sex workers be listed as a key subpopulation for surveillance attention and interventions.
