Abstract
A formula, adopted by the American Bridge Design Specifications, for calculating reliability index is analyzed. It is found that the formula is approximate. The reasons for errors of the formula are pointed out.Compared with the Monte Carlo Method, the formula gives the value of the reliability with an error up to 30% which goes far beyond the allowed engineering scope. Therefore the formula is not applicable to engineering.
A significance statement is not available in the OpenAlex record.
A contribution statement is not available in the OpenAlex record.
Method details are not available in the OpenAlex metadata.
Findings are not separately available in the OpenAlex metadata.
Limitations are not available in the OpenAlex metadata.
Application details are not available in the OpenAlex metadata.
