Abstract
Objective To study the relationship between apoptosis induced by genistein in T24 cells and the expression of bcl 2 gene. Methods TUNEL(TdT mediated x dUTP nick end labeling) and FCM(flow cytometry) were used to investigate the apoptosis in T24 cells, and to observe the bcl 2 protein and bcl 2 mRNA by FCM and RT PCR assay. Results Apparent apoptotic morphological changes of T24 cells were observed by TUNEL. FCM and RT PCR assay indicated that the percentage of apoptic cells and the bcl 2 protein and mRNA were decreased with increase of exposure duration of genistein. Conclusion Genistein can induce the apoptosis of T24 cells and downregulate the level of bcl 2 protein and mRNA.
