Abstract

For the sake of finding a new process for treatment of surfactant containing wastewater, the regulation of activated carbon modified by different methods adsorbing surfactant were studied. The results showed that:the surfactant adsorption capacities of the activated carbon modified by concentrated nitric acid and H2O2 were respectively 1.4 and 1.5 times as large as that of the original activated carbon. The static experiment indicated that, the said three kinds of activated carbon reached adsorption equilibrium in 4 h,and their adsorption capabilities increased obviously through the modification. In the dynamic experiment, the original activated carbon reached adsorption saturation in 360 min,and the other two kinds of modified activated carbon reached adsorption saturation in 300 min.Modified activated carbon was found more effective than the original carbon on the surfactant adsorption, and the activated carbon modified by H2O2 had a better adsorption capability compared with that modified by concentrated nitric acid.
