Abstract

N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)phthalimide was directly synthesized from phthalic anhydride and ethanolamine under microwave irradiation. The effects of microwave irradiation power, microwave irradiation time, reactant ratio on the yield of N-(2-hydroxyethyl)phthalimide were studied. The results showed that the most suitable condition for the reaction are as follows:microwave irradiation power was 259 W, radiation time was 6 min, m(phthalic anhydride)∶ m(ethanolamine)=1∶1.05, the yield was up to 87.1%.
