Abstract

Objective This study was sought to investigate whether pulse pressure is associated with artery flow-mediated dilatation (FMD)function and carotid intima-media thickness(IMT) in a group of hypertension patients. Methods eighty one subjects were grouped into normal control, hypertension and hypertension complicated with type 2 diabetes mellitus group. Endothelial dependent flow mediated dilataion (FMD) and carotid arterial intima-media thickness(IMT) were determined by high-resolution vascular ultrasound. Results There was a significant difference in brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (FMD) between groups(5.45±4.08)% ,(2.21±2.97)% and(8.85±5.08)%P0.01. Systolic pressure, blood glucose was negatively correlated with FMD (r=-0.34,P0.05;r=-0.37,P0.05). There was a significant difference in IMT between groups(1.00±0.21)mm,(1.18±0.27)mm and(0.74±0.24)mm,P0.01.Conclusion In hypertension patients with increased blood glucose tend to have an increased IMT ,endothelial function were seriously impaired in patients with hypertension complicated with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
