The Object and Desire of Love——Thinking about Plato's Symposium

Abstract

Both Aristophanic love and Socratic love are analyzed by Plato in his works.Putting an emphasis on the physical love,Aristophanes views the nature of love as self-love.Attaching more importance to spiritual love,Socrates sees the object of love as goodness and beauty.Based on the above analysis,the present paper argues that love lies in the tensile force embodied in the desire of man's body and soul.
