Abstract

The paper analyzes the moderate flood of peak discharge 1 650 m3/s and sediment concentration 1 110 kg/ m3 happened in the Huangpuchuan River of the middle Yellow River on July 27, 2006. It considers the cause of formation is that a) the center of storm is in the feldsparthic sandstone region of the upper Yellow River where the treatment level is lower and; b) “tearing the river bed off” scour happens in the flood season because the gully bottom is covered by thicker sediment. It also points out that the probability of such high sediment concentration flood happened in the Huangpuchuan River basin is still greater.
