Discrimination of concepts of ecosystem functions and ecosystem services

Abstract

Ecosystem and service had become a very popular field in ecological research. For the confusion using the concepts and terms of and service (function) among some of Chinese scholars, the different definitions and connotations of and service were discussed in this paper, based on summarizing the authoritative literatures. And the relationship between these two concepts was clarified here. Ecosystem is the process of physiological of biological organisms, it focus on reflecting the natural properties of and it is the basis of maintaining the services; Ecosystem service is generated by the based on human need, utilization and preference, it reflects the human use of functions, and is an expression of satisfying the human well-being. Therefore, the term of ecosystem service function is inaccurate, and it can be misunderstand.
