Abstract
Scholars of the Chinese dragon often mistakenly take dican as the prototype of the dragon, but the origin and evolution of dican show the two are just commensals to each other. The prototype of the real dragon proves to be the southern snake dragon and the human culture evolving around the southern snake dragon constitutes the mainstream of the social culture.
