Abstract

The chromosomal C-banding karyotype is a valuable index to identify species, compare and deduce phylogenetic relationship among taxa. The location, size and number of C-banding and the content of heterochromatin could reflect the similarities and differences of different genera, species and under-species taxa. The chromosomal C-banding karyotypes in the spermatogenesis of Filchnerella beicki and Filchnerella amplivertica from China were investigated. The diploid numbers of the 2 species of Filchnerella are 19(2n♂).All chromosomes are acrocentric and possess paracentromeric C-bands,and the mechanism of sex determination are XO(♂).There are some differences in the relative length of chromosomes and in the size, location and degree of dyeing of C-bands between the two species. These differences could be used to distinguish species.
