Treatment of pulps in crown fractures of anterior permanent teeth

AIM: To study the treatment of pulps in crown fractures of anterior permanent teeth,and to investigate the affecting factors to the pulps. METHODS: 98 anterior permanent teeth of 72 children were collected in this investigation.14 teeth with enamel fractures only were treated by mehtod of blunting the sharp fracture edges.23 teeth with dentin fractures,but without pulp exposure,were protected by calcium hydroxide. 61 teeth with dentin fractures and with pulp exposure were treated by partial pulpotomy.RESULTS: 14 enamel factured teeth had vital pulp after two years retrospect. The success rate of calcium hydroxide placement group was 82.6%,that of the partial pulpotomy was 81.9%. CONCLUSION: Different types of crown fractures should be treated by different methods.Vital pulps were affected by the severity of injuries.Pulpotomy is a successful treatment method for crown fractures with pulp exposure regardless of the maturity of the root. The formation of dentin bridge was one outcome of partial pulpotomy,but does not means that the pulps were healthy.
