A Few Problems in the Study of Contemporary Chinese History

Chinese history after 1949 belongs to contemporary history,and the academic circle have named this period as History of the People's Republic of China,Contemporary Chinese History,Contemporary Chinese Studies,Modern Chinese History,etc.I think that the most proper name for it is Contemporary Chinese History.As contemporary history is still continuing and subject to influence from politics,I think that we can focus on the relatively stable period before 2001.All taken into account,I believe it is proper to divide contemporary Chinese history into five periods: from 1949 to 1956,from 1956 to 1966,from 1966 to 1976,from 1976 to 1989 and from 1989 to 2001.The studies of contemporary Chinese history are of great significance,so we should see contemporary historical progress in line with modern standards,handle properly the relationship between academic studies and the application of the Party's policies and decisions,face the problem of evaluating the leaders,have a right attitude towards Mao Zedong Thoughts,and learn from the foreign achievements in the field.Our studies of this period of history should tell nothing but truth,be based on nothing but facts,and rely on nothing but material.
